Healthcare is broken. That's why millions of people delay doctor visits, skip annual checkups, and suffer through symptoms rather than seek care. But there's one healthcare touchpoint people still trust and visit regularly: their neighborhood pharmacy.

Walgreens recognized this unique opportunity. Instead of being just another place to pick up prescriptions, they wanted to become the healthcare partner that fills the gaps in our fractured system—improving patient outcomes for everyone, one visit at a time.

Project: Walgreens Proactive Health Campaign

Walgreens partnered with healthcare payers to leverage their unique patient relationships and improve health outcomes for insurance plan members. The solution: a highly targeted outreach campaign that spoke directly to individual health needs.

The campaign delivered personalized messaging through 150+ segmented emails and 20+ direct mailers, tailored by insurance provider, age group, and specific health concerns like diabetes and colon cancer risk. The communications started with education about Walgreens healthcare services and slowly increased pressure for patients to take action by either visiting their local Walgreens Health Corner, calling to set up an appointment, or completing critical health screenings like HbA1c tests and colon cancer screenings.

Strategy:
Begin with health education, and increase pressure toward specific health screenings to drive action, then follow up with reminders to ensure screening completion.


Results:
20% of eligible population completed colon cancer screening in 4 months post-launch.
Of those that tested positive, 100% followed up with a PCP or specialist.
2500+ health risk assessments (HRAs) completed among Buckeye members
